  14.          I made the following transcript from a tape recording
  15.          of a broadcast by Pacifica Radio Network station
  16.               WBAI-FM (99.5)

  20. MICHIO KAKU:
  21. I think it's very important when we look at the ballistics tests
  22. that show, for example, frame 313 of the Zapruder film which
  23. clearly shows the President's head going to the rear, which
  24. indicates that a bullet came from the front. Now in the Warren
  25. Commission Report, the FBI, of course, had access to the Zapruder
  26. film and also to the ballistics -- and what they did was they
  27. REVERSED two frames of the Zapruder film to make it look like the
  28. Now, there was one bullet -- the famous "magic bullet" -- that
  29. zig-zagged and essentially reversed direction about seven times,
  30. going through two bodies and winding up on a stretcher with only
  31. two percent of its mass disturbed. However, if you take a look at
  32. the Mannlicher-Carcano rifle and simply perform ballistics
  33. analysis on this, shooting bullets through, for example, animal
  34. carcasses, you can show very clearly that when it goes through
  35. cartilage and goes through tissue, you get much more than two
  36. percent deformation of the bullet. So, in two very egregious
  37. examples, we have major deficiencies within the Warren
  38. Commission Report.
  39.  
  40. GARY NULL:
  41. Alright.  Approximately what percentage of that bullet should
  42. have been missing?
  43.  
  44. MICHIO KAKU:
  45. Tests show that you could easily get twenty to thirty percent
  46. deformation of that bullet. Now I should also mention that NOVA,
  47. the science program on PBS, did a reenactment wherein they got a
  48. watermelon, and they shot bullets through the watermelon, and the
  49. watermelon actually recoiled in the direction of the bullet,
  50. which violates common sense. The conclusion would be, therefore,
  51. that it is possible to violate common sense and have the head
  52. lurch in the wrong direction. However, the tests done on this
  53. watermelon were of a disembodied head, in the sense that there was
  54. no neck and there was no body. You could even blow on a
  55. watermelon with your breath and have the watermelon move.
  56. In other words, this is an extremely minor effect. It only takes
  57. place when you have a watermelon suspended without being attached
  58. to another body. However, tests done on animals by, for example,
  59. deer hunters and bear hunters have not shown this recoil effect
  60. where the head lurches in the direction of the bullet. So I think
  61. that NOVA was grasping for straws, trying to get a relatively
  62. minor effect to explain a major discrepancy within the ballistics
  63. [data] of the Warren Commission Report. And the very fact that
  64. the FBI was forced to deliberately tamper with the Zapruder film
  65. indicates that the FBI itself was aware of the fact that the body
  66. was going in the wrong direction.

  68. GARY NULL:
  69. That would therefore give us the impression that the FBI
  70. participated in the cover-up of the assassination of President
  71. Kennedy.
  72.  
  73. MICHIO KAKU:
  74. That's right.  In 1975, the Freedom of Information Act revealed
  75. some of the minutes of the Warren Commission Report, which stated
  76. that they were aware of the fact that Oswald was, in fact,
  77. Agent S179 of the FBI, and that he was an informant of the FBI
  78. who got something like two or three hundred dollars a month for
  79. his work, and that this information would be EXTREMELY important.
  80. But, basically, they failed to follow it up because they couldn't
  81. put FBI agents under oath and have them lie under oath. And so,
  82. this report was essentially unverifiable. But three different
  83. sources, including the Attorney-General of the State of Texas,
  84. stated to the Warren Commission that their understanding was that
  85. Oswald was, indeed, Agent S179 of the FBI. And the conclusion of
  86. the Warren Commission Report was that this evidence was so HOT --
  87. it was SO damaging that it would have to be kept classified for
  88. fifty years. Fortunately, the Freedom of Information Act revealed
  89. this document in 1975.

  91. Also, by the way, in 1978 the House Select Committee [on Assassinations]
  92. interviewed the CIA paymaster -- a Mr. Wilcott, James Wilcott --
  93. and he testified under oath that he was, in fact, the paymaster
  94. of the CIA in charge of covert operations against the Soviet Union,
  95. and that one of his contract employees was, in fact, Lee Harvey Oswald.
  96. So, in other words, Oswald was a bit player and he apparently had
  97. a role to play with the FBI and also the CIA. And both agencies,
  98. of course, had a vested interest in keeping this information out of
  99. the Warren Commission Report.
  100.  
  101. GARY NULL:
  102. I think it's interesting at this point that CIA Director Gates is
  103. now suggesting that the file on Oswald, which he is turning over,
  104. will show that Oswald had nothing to do with the Kennedy assassination.
  105. Of course, anyone who would accept for a moment that the CIA is going
  106. to give any information about anything that has not been altered
  107. is extraordinarily naive.
  108.  
  109. MICHIO KAKU:
  110. Right.  In fact, in 1973 the CIA destroyed most of the Oswald
  111. file. We know that it was in two large file cabinets -- in fact,
  112. two large file cabinets with four drawers apiece. He had a 201
  113. file, which means that he had a very long history with the CIA,
  114. and in 1973 the CIA destroyed that entire file. So, in other
  115. words, what is going to come out now is basically a fraction of
  116. what was, once upon a time, in the files of the CIA. Now the CIA
  117. has been questioned about this and they said that this was
  118. "routine cleaning" [housekeeping]. So in the "routine cleaning"
  119. of the files, they destroyed potentially damaging information.
  120. We will never know what was in these files. So whatever Gates
  121. might reveal, at some point, will only be a shadow of what was
  122. actually in there.

  124. GARY NULL:
  125. And CERTAINLY nothing that would implicate the CIA.
  126. Also, is it not the case that the primary person pushing this
  127. "single bullet", this "magic bullet" theory is Pennsylvania's
  128. Republican Senator Arlen Specter, who also was the Anita Hill basher?
  129.
